TaxAssessmentCalculator.com was built with a simple goal: give every homeowner in America free access to the same property tax data and tools that professionals use.
Property taxes are the largest recurring expense most homeowners face after their mortgage — yet most people have no idea how their tax bill is calculated, whether their assessment is accurate, or what they can do to reduce it. We built these calculators to change that.
Our Data
Every calculator on this site is built with data from authoritative public sources: the Tax Foundation's annual property tax rankings, the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey (median home values and median taxes paid), and individual state assessor and comptroller offices for assessment ratios, exemption rules, and appeal deadlines.
We update our data annually and cross-reference multiple sources to ensure accuracy. When state-level data changes — such as assessment ratio adjustments or new exemption thresholds — we incorporate those changes within one update cycle.
